Greek Salad lunch & Amy's dinner

For lunch, I had a Greek salad with no olives from a nearby café called Arda's. It was ok, but it was a little too salty for my taste. I often forget how salty feta cheese is, and I don't like that.

For dinner, I once again had Amy's lentil soup with Boca ground "beef" inside of it. I cannot stress how good of a combination this is.

Like many of you, starting very early tomorrow morning, I will be traveling for the holiday. I will be in the middle of nowhere with little to no reception, so I'm taking a hiatus from posting until I return on Monday. See you then!

11/25/14 - Breakfast

Veggie omelette, no potatoes or bread.  Water. I'm really trying to do better with the water. I had breakfast while doing a witness interview, so no photo of that. Here's my tea, though!

Follow-Up Dinner w/Amy's Soup

When I got home, I was hungry again, so I heated up some of Amy's low-sodium lentil and vegetable soup, which is one of my favorites. I also made myself some soy hot chocolate with a couple of vegan marshmallows to top it off.

Dinner from Cabbage Patch

The Cabbage Patch is one of my favorite places to eat close to work. Tonight, I had a side of mashed potatoes, vegan zucchini purée, and some iced green tea. A couple of slices of multigrain bread came with the purée. Dinner was awesome! I liked using the purée as a sort of gravy for the potatoes. 

Mmmmm.




11/24/14 - lunch

For lunch, I had a half of a banana, some dried mangoes, and a bowl of vegan chili (not shown). The chili was too damn oily. Such a shame.


11/24/14 - Breakfast

I had the same thing this morning as I did yesterday for breakfast: Naked Juice orange juice with no sugar added, an Ezekiel tortilla, a touch of Earth Balance, and certified-humane eggs.


I think this is going to be my last round of eggs. Even though the eggs I buy are certified humane, I just wonder how true that really is. Thus, I'm going back to no eggs in the house, which will return my household to a vegan one. I'm happy with this decision.

11/23/14 - Dinner at My First Jewish Wedding

Tonight, one of the associates in my office got married. This was the first Jewish wedding that I had ever been to. Before the ceremony, my fiancé and I snuck off to have a bite to eat and a little bit to drink. I split the macaroni and cheese dish with him, and I had a glass of cabernet with that.

Afterwards, we headed over to where everybody else was, and there was a ton of food. Unfortunately, almost everything had meat in it, so I was glad that we had our macaroni and cheese beforehand. After the ceremony, there was more food, but we had the same problem. So, we enjoyed what appeared to be the only thing without meat, which was a combination of noodles, grilled mushrooms, and pesto. It was good, but it had a lot of oil, which was a bit too much. I continued with a couple of glasses of red wine throughout the evening.

11/23/14 - Breakfast

Orange juice. Breakfast burrito with certified-humane eggs, a touch of Earth Balance, and an Ezekiel tortilla.

11/22/14 - The only veggie thing on the menu at Korean BBQ

Tonight, we were celebrating one of my good friend's birthdays. She wanted to go to Korean BBQ, so I found the only thing on the menu that I could eat. This was a lovely combination of mostly mushrooms and asparagus. I made sure that they did not use any fish sauce, so there was light oil and then maybe a pinch of salt to go with it. I also had a glass of pinot noir.

Afterwards, we went to karaoke, and the girls brought a ton of liquor, which we thoroughly enjoyed.

11/22/14 - Indian Food!

Found a great hole-in-the-wall Indian food restaurant in the valley. The food was simply amazing. We had some eggplant, chana sag, chai tea, samosas, and basmati rice. Delicious.

11/21/14 - veggie sushi dinner

For veggie sushi, we have avocado rolls, an avocado egg roll, and some inari.

11/21/14 - lunch sans photo

I took the staff out to lunch at the Biltmore. I have learned that there are some times when taking a photograph of my food is not feasible (for example, when I'm taking employees or a client/potential client out). When this happens, I will continue to document what I eat; there just won't be a photo to acompany it.

For lunch, I had pasta with spinach fettuccine noodles, a mix of tomato and a cream sauce, sun-dried tomatoes, bell peppers, mushrooms, garlic, pesto, spinach, and onions. I also had a little bit of potato au gratin and some grilled veggies, like broccolini, asparagus, and cauliflower. Afterwards, I had a couple of bites of desserts as well as coffee with cream and sugar.

It took several hours before I could have this mini Tootsie Pop, which is the only thing that I was able to photograph this afternoon.

Last New Vega Bar

I have finally found a Vega sports bar that I like!  The chocolate coconut almond Vega sports bar (to sustain) is pretty damn tasty. I think that the theme I'm sensing is that the Vega bars with "almond" in the title are nailing it.  So, this was my breakfast, and I rather enjoyed it. It's still not up to par with my all-time favorite Vega bar (the chocolate cherry almond meal bar), but it's still quite good.

11/20/14 - Dinner

I apologize that I forgot to post something between lunch and and now. I had a migraine, so I stopped by the store to grab a Coke. I don't like taking meds on an empty stomach, so I also bought a fruit bar made with nothing but apples and strawberries, and I also bought some Sun Chips (the garden salsa flavor, which is the best).

Tonight, I had the same thing for dinner as I had last night, only I added an item. So, I had Amy's low-sodium lentil soup with Boca ground "beef" added. I highly recommend that you try this combination because it is so very good. I also made an egg burrito, using certified humane eggs, an Ezekiel tortilla, and a touch of Earth Balance.




After dinner, I made myself a martini, using vodka, grapefruit Izze, and frozen blueberries. For dessert, I heated up some blueberries, and that was enough for me.

11/20/14 - lunch

I started off with the world's smallest Jolly Rancher candy, which was neatly placed in a jar at a spa, where I snuck away for a mid-day pedicure. For lunch, I headed on over to Panera, where I got a small macaroni and cheese (which you know is one of my addictions), a couple of their black bean soup, and an apple to make me not feel so badly about getting the mac and cheese. Afterwards, though, I went a few doors down to the gelato place (Bonaventura Gelato Lounge in Marina Del Rey) and got a baby half-and-half gelato. Half of it was cookies and cream---my favorite, and the other half was a new flavor: gingerbread cookie. Everything was delicious.

Vega Bar + 1 Bite for Breakfast

I love Vega. I think that this is a great company with excellent ideals and intentions. But for some reason, no matter how hard I try, I just cannot get with their bars. Vega recently came out with a series of meal bars and sports bars, and, so far, as I have mentioned in a previous blog, I can only get behind one of them.

This morning, as I was on my way out the door, I had no time for breakfast. I grabbed two of the Vega bars that I had on-hand. One of them was a chocolate coconut recovery bar; the other was my go-to chocolate cherry almond meal bar, just in case I did not like the first one. I'm glad I had my back-up with me.

The chocolate coconut recovery bar is awful. It tastes like powder and chalk and almost nothing more. For a while, I was riding bikes. I've had to stop for a little while, but I do know that when I'm done with, say, a 40-mile bike ride, the last thing that I want to eat during my recovery period is a bunch of dust. That's what the chocolate coconut recovery bar reminds me of, which is disappointing.

However, I cannot say enough about my favorite Vega bar.  It is wonderful. In fact, I would almost go so far as to say that it is succulent. The chocolate outside is probably one of the most perfect chocolate shells for any meal bar that exists on the market today. The inside it is wonderfully gooey and has these crispy, almost crunchy goodies to go with it. All together, it feels like I'm almost cheating because it's simply so delicious.

I'm seeing what are my fiance wants to finish the rest of that first bar before I trash it. As for me, I will continue to go through my current stock and will update you as I try new flavors; although, I do not have high hopes. I plan to buy a ton more of my favorite flavor, though.

11/19/14 - Dinner (soup)

For dinner, I had a bowl of soup, I chose Amy's low-sodium lentil soup, which is one of my favorites. For an added touch, I included some Boca veggie ground beef. This combo was delicious, and I highly recommend it.

For dessert, I finished off the Rice Dream's mini bon bons. :)

11/19/14 - pre - lunch brownies & lunch

Before lunch, a colleague brought brownies into the office. I couldn't help myself. The corner pieces are my absolute favorite. I had two pieces, and they were delightful.

For lunch, I was meeting with a client, so, sadly, I was not able to bust out my phone to take a photograph of the meal that I was consuming. It just would have looked too weird. But I will tell you what I had. I ate a single veggie tamale from the farmer's market at Pershing Square, and it was good, but the veggies were sparse. I also bought some blueberry macaroons at the farmer's market, and those were lovely! They were a big hit with everybody.

11/19/14 - "Breakfast" & the Importance of Water

I had a rushed morning, so I'm eating the other half of the banana that I had yesterday.  I also really, really, REALLY need to up my water intake, which is at pathetic levels. Thus, I want to finish this bottle of water by noon. We'll see. I just need to remember to drink it. Drinking water simply slips my mind.

11/18/14 - Lunch and a Half

I had a giant lunch today and am still working on the banana portion. Today's lunch consisted of some Gardein chicken, a Greek salad (hold the kalimata olives), watermelon cubes, pumpkin spice coffee with soy milk and xylitol, a banana, and some cake.  Whew!

Green Smoothie Breakfast

I made a different (better) green smoothie this morning for breakfast.  It consisted of water, cashews, orange juice (which I almost never drink), frozen bananas, one date, and a gigantic handful of frozen spinach.  Soooooo good!

11/17/14 - "Dinner" and Dessert

Tonight's "dinner" was kind of b.s.  I heated up two veggie burgers and added unsalted, stone-ground mustard. I also had three certified-humane egg whites & one yolk with a bit of Earth Balance.

For dessert, I enjoyed Rice Dream's version of mini Bon Bons.

11/17/14 - lunch

I first thought that one of these Vega bars would hold me over for lunch, but it did not work out. This is the only Vega bar flavor that I think is decent (chocolate cherry almond). Actually, it's pretty good, but the other flavors, in my pinion, need some serious help. After about an hour having the Vega bar, I ate a sandwich that my fiancé had left over from last night's dinner. It was a grilled portabello panini with pesto from Urth Caffé, and it was wonderful!

11/17/14 - Breakfast

I had the same smoothie that I had yesterday morning for breakfast this morning. It was just as good, but I had to put some ice in it and stir it with a chopstick to freshen it up, which is something that I typically do with my smoothies. I also had the heels of my Ezekiel bread loaf. I put some Earth Balance and organic all-fruit strawberry jam from Trader Joe's on top of it, and it was delicious.

Lasagna & Junior Mints

We went out to Urth Caffé tonight.  I ordered the lasagna, which is veggie, and they have a vegan version, too. I wanted to make up for my disappointing experience the other night when I ordered the polenta lasagna (which was awful). Tonight's lasagna was fabulous!  It was rich and delightful. 

After that, we went to see Whiplash. I had my favorite movie candy, Junior Mints, which has been vegan for the last couple of years (they stopped using gelatin). :)

The movie, by the way, was nothing short of completely riveting. 

11/16/14 - "lunch"?

This is the little bit that I had for my sorry excuse for a lunch.  The bad news is that it kind of smells like cat food. The good news is that it tastes really good!

11/16 - Breakfast Berry Smoothie

Today's breakfast consisted of frozen bananas, frozen spinach, frozen mixed berries, raw cashews, water, 1 tablespoon of flax oil, and 2 pitted dates.  Super yummy.

11/15/14 - Dinner for Dad's Birthday

Tonight, my brother and I celebrated my dad's birthday. He requested In & Out grilled cheese (no meat) burgers. He also wanted fries and neapolitan shakes. Thus, that's what we had. The shake was better than I thought it would be, but I don't really enjoy drinking dairy (I find it to be gross and generally awful on many levels). It was too sweet for my taste, too, and really rich.  The grilled cheese "burger" was awesome.  Mmmmmm. So good.  The fries, though, were nasty. I don't know why everyone raves about In & Out's fries.  I think they're disgusting.


For dessert, Dad made some chocolate chip cookies, which were fine, but I could only handle a few bites.  I was stuffed.

11/15/14 - Breakfast

Another problem that I have involves free food. When food is free, I feel the need to take advantage of it, regardless of whether it tastes like cardboard or is unhealthy.

A perfect example of this occurred this morning. I MC'd a work presentation, where pastries and fruit were served. I had a small cinnamon roll, which was awful. I also ate some of the fresh fruit. 

I asked a colleague to get me some Starbuck's soy hot chocolate, which took care of a craving (I apologize that I forgot to tale a photo of that).
